Worth knowing

  • The welcome screen and the intro text above the first question carry example turnaround times, policies and promises. Rewrite them as yours before you publish — they are the part respondents take literally.

How to use this template

  1. Open it as a draft

Press "Use this template" and it lands in your workspace as an editable form with all 5 questions already in it. No card, and nothing is published until you say so.

  2. Cut what you do not need

Every question you remove is one fewer reason to abandon the form. It takes about 2 minutes to fill in as it stands, and that is the number worth protecting.

  3. Add from the question bank

Pick what you are missing from the questions below. Drag any of them in, change the wording, and use conditional logic so people only see the ones that apply to them.

  4. Share it, or put it on your own site

Publish to get a link, or embed it in a page you already have. Answers arrive in your dashboard, and you can send them on to anywhere else with a webhook or an integration.

32 press enquiry form questions to choose from

Journalists work to deadlines that are usually measured in hours, and a press form that treats an enquiry like a general contact message will miss most of them. The deadline question is the one that matters.

These questions sort a real enquiry from a sales pitch dressed as one, and tell you how fast you have to move.

The journalist

  • What is your name?
  • Which publication are you writing for?
  • Are you staff or freelance?
  • What is your email address?
  • What is the best number to reach you on?
  • Which country are you based in?
  • Do you have a link to your recent work?
  • Is there an editor we should copy in?

The story

  • What is the story about?
  • What angle are you taking?
  • What do you need from us specifically?
  • Are you looking for a quote, data, an interview or background?
  • Who else are you speaking to for this piece?
  • Will we be named, or is this background only?
  • Where will it be published?
  • Is there a working headline yet?

The deadline

  • When is your deadline?
  • Is that a hard deadline or a target?
  • What time zone is that in?
  • When does the piece publish?
  • Would a written statement today beat an interview tomorrow?
  • How long would you need someone for?
  • Are you able to send questions in advance?
  • Can we see our quotes before publication?

Practicalities

  • Do you need photography or logos?
  • Do you need anything in a particular format?
  • Would you like to be added to our press list?
  • Are you writing about us, or about the sector generally?
  • Have you written about us before?
  • Is there anything factually wrong that you have read elsewhere?
  • Is this under embargo?
  • Anything else we should know?

Press Enquiry form questions, answered

What should a press enquiry form ask?
Publication, deadline, and exactly what they need. The deadline decides everything else, and it is the question most press pages leave out.
Should press enquiries go to a separate form?
Yes, if you get any volume. A journalist on a two-hour deadline sitting behind the same queue as a billing question is a story you lose, and the questions have almost nothing in common.
How do I stop sales pitches coming through the press form?
Ask for the publication and a link to recent work. It is a low bar for a real journalist and enough friction that most pitches go elsewhere. Routing on the enquiry type helps too.
Can I alert someone immediately when a press enquiry arrives?
Yes. Send a notification email on submission, or push it straight into a chat channel with a webhook so it is seen in minutes rather than at the next inbox check.
Is this press enquiry form template free?
Yes. Use it, publish it and collect answers on the free plan with no card. Paid plans add things like payments, scheduling, removing our badge and your own domain, but none of them are needed to run this form.
Do I need an account to use it?
You need one to edit and publish, because the form has to live somewhere and the answers have to come back to you. Signing up takes about a minute and does not ask for a card. The people filling your form in never need an account.
Can I change the questions?
All of them. The template is a starting point, not a fixed form: add, remove, reword and reorder anything, change the look, and use logic so people only see the questions that apply to them.
Can I put it on my own website?
Yes. Embed it in a page you already have, or share the link. On a paid plan you can serve it from your own domain so the address says your name rather than ours.
Where do the answers go?
Into your dashboard, where you can read, search and export them as CSV. You can also have each response emailed to you, pushed to another tool with a webhook, or sent to a connected integration.
How long does this form take to fill in?
About 2 minutes as it stands, across 5 questions. Every question you cut brings that down, and shorter forms get finished more often.
