Grant application

Steps break it into sections and the budget is a number rather than prose, so you can sort by it. Word limits on the open questions keep the reading load sane.

Worth knowing

  • The welcome screen and the intro text above the first question carry example turnaround times, policies and promises. Rewrite them as yours before you publish — they are the part respondents take literally.

How to use this template

  1. Open it as a draft

Press "Use this template" and it lands in your workspace as an editable form with all 10 questions already in it. No card, and nothing is published until you say so.

  2. Cut what you do not need

Every question you remove is one fewer reason to abandon the form. It takes about 4 minutes to fill in as it stands, and that is the number worth protecting.

  3. Add from the question bank

Pick what you are missing from the questions below. Drag any of them in, change the wording, and use conditional logic so people only see the ones that apply to them.

  4. Share it, or put it on your own site

Publish to get a link, or embed it in a page you already have. Answers arrive in your dashboard, and you can send them on to anywhere else with a webhook or an integration.

32 grant application form questions to choose from

Grant forms are long because they have to be, and that makes saving progress the single most important feature. Somebody gathering budget figures will not finish in one sitting.

Word limits in the question text, not in a separate guidance PDF nobody opens.

The applicant

  • What is the name of your organisation?
  • What is your registered charity or company number?
  • What is your address?
  • Who is the main contact for this application?
  • What is their role, email and phone number?
  • What type of organisation are you?
  • When were you founded?
  • What is your annual income?

The project

  • What is the project called?
  • Summarise it in 100 words.
  • What problem does it address?
  • What evidence do you have that the problem exists?
  • Who will benefit, and how many people?
  • Where will it take place?
  • When will it start and finish?
  • What will have changed by the end?

Money

  • How much are you applying for?
  • What is the total project cost?
  • Upload your budget breakdown.
  • What will the grant specifically pay for?
  • Have you secured any other funding?
  • From whom, and how much?
  • What happens if you only receive part of what you asked for?
  • How will the work continue after the grant ends?

Delivery and reporting

  • Who will deliver the project?
  • What relevant experience do they have?
  • Who are your delivery partners?
  • How will you measure success?
  • What are your milestones?
  • What are the main risks and how will you manage them?
  • Can you provide your latest accounts?
  • Do you agree to our reporting requirements?

Grant Application form questions, answered

What should a grant application form include?
The organisation, the project, the money, and how success will be measured. Put word limits in the question itself, because applicants write to the limit they can see.
Can applicants save a grant application and finish later?
Yes. Save and resume gives each applicant a private link back to their part-finished application, which matters enormously on a form that needs budget figures and sign-off.
How do I collect budget documents with an application?
Add a file upload question for budgets and accounts, and set the accepted formats. Files arrive with the submission rather than in a separate email thread.
How do I score grant applications fairly?
Decide the criteria before the form opens and build them into scored questions, so every application is marked against the same scale rather than against whichever one was read first.
Is this grant application form template free?
Yes. Use it, publish it and collect answers on the free plan with no card. Paid plans add things like payments, scheduling, removing our badge and your own domain, but none of them are needed to run this form.
Do I need an account to use it?
You need one to edit and publish, because the form has to live somewhere and the answers have to come back to you. Signing up takes about a minute and does not ask for a card. The people filling your form in never need an account.
Can I change the questions?
All of them. The template is a starting point, not a fixed form: add, remove, reword and reorder anything, change the look, and use logic so people only see the questions that apply to them.
Can I put it on my own website?
Yes. Embed it in a page you already have, or share the link. On a paid plan you can serve it from your own domain so the address says your name rather than ours.
Where do the answers go?
Into your dashboard, where you can read, search and export them as CSV. You can also have each response emailed to you, pushed to another tool with a webhook, or sent to a connected integration.
How long does this form take to fill in?
About 4 minutes as it stands, across 10 questions. Every question you cut brings that down, and shorter forms get finished more often.
